In part 1 of this installment, Dr. Ritchie Shoemaker speaks about various biotoxin related illnesses such as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Lyme Disease and Mold. More available at www.biotoxin.info Why Haven’t I Ever Heard of Biotoxins & Biotoxin Illness Before? You probably have heard of it, only it was called something else like Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFIDS), Fibromyalgia, Chronic Lyme Disease (CLD), Mold Illness, or ADHD (see “Other Names for Biotoxin Illness” below). The discoveries and the science behind how biotoxins are involved in these illnesses and disorders is fairly new. Ritchie Shoemaker, MD presented some of our most recent Chronic Fatigue research and treatment findings at The International Association for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome conference held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in January of 2007. We have also just completed a soon to be published ground-breaking study on the health effects of mold exposure. Many progressive doctors around the country endorse the use of our on-line test and the cholestyramine-based treatment protocol pioneered by Ritchie Shoemaker, MD. Remember though, that medical advances are ultimately driven through peer-reviewed publication in medical journals. These studies are expensive and time consuming and our recent peer-reviewed publications will help advance these discoveries into mainstream medicine. Soon many more doctors will be aware of biotoxins and the role they play in chronic illness. That said, many leading …

Product Description
Arthritis is usually considered a disease of older adults, but nearly 300,000 children in the United States suffer from some form of arthritis or rheumatic disease, such as juvenile arthritis (JRA), fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, systemic lupus erythematosus, scleroderma, or Kawasaki disease. Yet until now very little information has been available to guide parents and doctors in properly diagnosing such children.
Here is a readable, reliable guide to the common causes of bone, joint, muscle, and arthritis pain in children, designed to help parents and physicians understand these disorders, arrive at the proper diagnosis, and choose the most effective treatment. In this comprehensive resource, Dr. Thomas Lehman–the head of one of the most prestigious pediatric rheumatology programs in the world–offers easy-to-understand information on the causes, symptoms, tests, and treatments for a wide variety of rheumatic diseases and childhood pain.
Dr. Lehman writes with great clarity, providing numerous case examples that illustrate the topic at hand and offering practical, down-to-earth advice. Equally important, he answers the questions that parents are most likely to ask: What should they observe in their children? What questions should they ask their doctor? Which tests are necessary? What risk factors should they be aware of? And how can they help their children cope with the social and psychological aspects of their illness. The book summarizes diagnostic tests, discusses the most effective medications, and discusses physical therapy, alternative therapy, and surgical options that are available.
Clearly written, thorough, authoritative, and up-to-date, It’s Not Just Growing Pains is the definitive resource available on the subject for parents and health care professionals, helping them to understand the children’s pain and find the best available care.

Fibromyalgia is a sort of syndrome of widespread pain from top to toes, sleeplessness, fatigue, and joint stiffness. It causes pain almost in every parts of the body, including muscles, connective tissues, and joint tissues. Above all, its severeness also causes other problems. Consequently, it distorts the function of the nervous system and affects the individuals’ personal and professional life.

The people suffering from fibromyalgia reported that they feel tremendous pain in their muscles in the same way as someone reports it after heavy tiredness. In some cases, suffering people also feel sunburn kind of feeling on their bodies. Resultantly, they feel like exhausted, no energy remains in their body, suppose someone has stopped the power supply in their bodies.

The causes are still not identified. It is pervasive and anyone can become sick out of it. However, adult women and the person suffering from rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune diseases are more vulnerable.

As of now, there is no cure developed that suppose to be universally accepted for fibromyalgia pain treatment; nevertheless, there are a few FDA-approved drugs like Lyrica, Cymbalta, and Savella that is useful and largely accepted. Besides, research is going on for the development of specific medicine.

Additionally, for the fibromyalgia treatments patients has also been suggested to exercise few useful techniques viz…

- Medication

- Vitamins & Supplements

- Traditional Medicine

- Yoga

- Physical Therapy

- Occupational Therapy

- Acupressure & Acupuncture

- Moderate Exercise

- Remedial Massage

Nevertheless, people suffering from fibromyalgia pain more often use various techniques when looking for their treatment. The combination of two or more techniques produces good result and subsequently, patients get relief faster. For example – the combination of medicine with balanced diet and moderate exercise give fast fibromyalgia relief to patients.

Chronic pain and fibromyalgia can be overwhelming. However, there are many things a person can do to recover and/or manage, living life to its fullest. The most important point to grasp is that it requires action on the part of the person who is challenged by chronic pain/fibromyalgia. As an occupational therapist, I have seen this confirmed over and over in treating patients. Those who take an active part in their therapy and responsibility for their choices do far better than those who take a passive roll and tend to see their problems/symptoms as outside of their control. One of the most defeating attitudes I see is when a person acts if they can do nothing and it is everyone else’s responsibility to do for them and it is others fault when things do not work or get better. None of us like to hear that the “buck stops here” but that is the reality when it comes to managing our own bodies and minds. Truly we can seek out health professionals and others who can assist us and learn from others but all this is useless if we do not do our part. The purpose of this article is to give strategies and tools for improving and managing chronic pain and fibromyalgia with the goal of empowering you to live life unlimited by the chronic pain and fibromyalgia.

Some strategies and tools that focus on the psychological component of managing chronic pain and other fibromyalgia symptoms are as follows. Good sleep management is a vital component for the body to heal and restore itself. Meditation, prayer, thankfulness, listening to relaxing music and humor can be instrumental in releasing and decreasing stress that often comes hand in hand with chronic pain and fibromyalgia. Often how we perceive our pain and other fibromyalgia symptoms can lead to increased stress thereby exacerbating our symptoms and putting us on the track of a downward spiral. Journaling can be a helpful tool as well as sharing your challenges with someone you trust and/or faces similar challenges. Care needs to be taken though not to get into a complaining and blaming session which is easy and tempting to do often. Get encouraged and inspired regularly by listening to and/or reading material from someone you respect, such as the Bible, Dr. Phil, and Joyce Myers. The source may differ for each one of us – the important thing is that we need continual encouragement and inspiration to be the most we can be.

Some of the strategies that focus on the physical components of managing chronic pain include the following. Massage can help relieve stress and loosen painful areas. Exercise done right is an effective way to manage symptoms. However, with fibromyalgia overly strenuous exercise can be more painful than helpful. One of the best resources I have read for exercising recommendations for people challenged by fibromyalgia is in the book titled, The Fibromyalgia Solution by David Dryland, MD with Lorie List. Pacing yourself throughout the day and taking rest breaks is as important as adequately exercising. Hot & cold therapy can provide good temporary relief.

Lastly, even though the list could go on and on, an extremely important strategy to help improve and manage chronic pain and fibromyalgia is to get engaged in purposeful and meaningful activities. Volunteer, reach out and help someone in need. Often the simple question to someone in need, “How can I help you?” becomes a tremendous blessing to them and the giver. Especially, helps to get our focus off of our own problems. I encourage finding your passion in life and focusing on it. Doing this frees us to live life unlimited by the crosses we bear which we all bear crosses in life, for some of us chronic pain/ fibromyalgia happens to be one of them.

Cymbalta, which is an antidepressant, is believed to reduce depression and is also considered to be a possible benefit to women suffering from Fibromyalgia. This illness, which is still considered rare even though it affects millions of Americans, affects more women and men. Even though the cause of it remains unknown, Fibromyalgia is a growing problem that many are forced to cope with on a daily basis. A Cymbalta Fibromyalgia treatment is designed to help treat both the emotional and physical symptoms of depression. In general, individuals who are dealing with a chronic illness often become depressed and sometimes turn to the world of medicine for assistance.

It is important to note that Cymbalta is not approved for the treatment of Fibromyalgia, but studies have found that it could be beneficial in depression. Because it is thought to help treat depression, which is often the result of a chronic illness, some experts believe that there are benefits that coincide with this illness and a Cymbalta Fibromyalgia treatment.

Cymbalta Fibromyalgia treatments can cause various side effects with the most common being nausea, constipation, dry mouth, decreased appetite, etc. Cymbalta is not for everyone, especially to those who are allergic to it’s ingredients. In addition, individuals with liver or kidney problems, have been diagnosed with glaucoma or consume large amounts of alcohol should speak with their physician prior to taking Cymbalta. Women who are pregnant or nursing should not take Cymbalta and should make their physician aware of any conditions prior to accepting any type of prescription.

Prior to accepting any type of prescription medication, individuals must make sure that their physician is made fully aware of any medicines that are currently being consumed and/or any current illnesses. In order to safely provide treatments, a physician must be made fully aware of the circumstances surrounding the patient’s health.

Patients who are being treated for depression should be monitored closely in order to ensure that the depression does not worsen or become increasingly dangerous to the patient. Individuals who are severely depressed may require hospitalization and extended care beyond that which a prescription-based medicine can offer. Anyone who feels that their depression is worsening should consult their physician for a proper diagnosis and a recommended treatment course.
