Product Description
More than 30 years after it was first diagnosed, Lyme disease remains one of our most misunderstood illnesses. This frequently misdiagnosed infection is spreading at an alarming rate and, if not treated early, can cause debilitating symptoms. More than 1.7 million people in the United States, and many others in Europe and Asia, currently have Lyme and are unaware or can’t find the right treatment. Finally, Beating Lyme offers those who struggle with it the guidance to get the help they need. A respected health author and educator, Constance Bean is an authority on this elusive illness. In 1993 she was diagnosed with Lyme and has spent the past 14 years researching its treatments and diagnoses. In Beating Lyme readers will find comforting, hard-won advice on such topics as: • what Lyme is and how to recognize the symptoms • what to do after a tick bite • how to protect family and friends • how to get the best treatment and what to do if insurance won’t cover it • living with long-term Lyme disease Compassionate and thoroughly researched, this is a book that will help both doctors and patients understand and conquer this complex illness.

* Please note* I don’t sell anything. I’m just a stay-at-home soccer Mom with a video blog. Hello all! Just a very quick blog update today. Tomorrow is the last day of school, so I’m a wee bit swamped. It’s all good, though. Fun stuff going on. My blog update is followed by a very funny music video starring “Hip Hop Alex.’ As most of you know, my son, Alex, age 7, has Pediatric Fibromyalgia. He’s been a patient of Dr. St. Amand’s since he was 4. He is on the “Guaifenesin Protocol,” to treat his fibro, just like me. Took about 18 months to find an ideal cycling dose for him. Yeah, it took a lot longer than I would have liked! But, you should see him now! Oh, wait, you can! Hence, this video… Having lived with chronic pain for the better part of his life, Alex does not take moving pain-free for granted. He loves to dance now, and has come up with hip-hop dance style. I think it is funny as heck. Maybe you will, too. Soccer season just ended this past weekend, and he was totally bummed out. So, I made him a video combining his dancing, and favorite photos of soccer season to cheer him up. This is that video, combined with some narrative about his fibromyalgia journey. So, here’s three minutes of my fibromyalgia update, and three minutes of Little Alex, Bustin’ a Groove…

Doctors often cannot find anything wrong with somebody who has fibromyalgia. A person may visit his physician for an appointment, his body hurting all over, and emerge from the clinic confused and still feeling painful. If this sounds familiar, then there’s a chance that you also have fibromyalgia. Aside from hurting, there are also other symptoms that suggest this syndrome. Below is a fibromyalgia symptom checklist you can go over to see if you have this condition.

Pain. This is the first and most common symptom of fibromyalgia, and it is often the most debilitating for most people. Fibromyalgia pain is widespread. It is felt on both sides of your body, on the neck and head, the torso, and in the upper and lower limbs. For many, it is an excruciating ache in the muscles that can vary from dull, throbbing, burning, stabbing, or shooting. You also experience tender points, or specific regions in the body, which hurt too much when pressure, even the slightest, is applied on them. Tender points are usually found in the neck, shoulders, lower back, waist, ribs, thighs, and knees. Fatigue. This isn’t just the ordinary kind of fatigue you feel after a particularly bad day at work. Fibromyalgia fatigue feels like you have been running around all day carrying two 50-pound weights without having eaten any meals at all. And it happens even when you did not do anything close to running around all day carrying two 50-pound weights. Difficulty in sleeping. People with fibromyalgia find it difficult falling asleep, and even more difficult staying that way. Research has shown that those who suffer from this syndrome also suffer from several bursts of awake-like brain activity during sleep, preventing the patients from easing into the deep and restorative phase of slumber. This further contributes to the fatigue experienced by the patients during the day. Fibro fog. This is a collective term which refers to a number of cognitive problems that are often faced by persons with fibromyalgia. Fibro fog episodes usually only last for three days, but the more severe cases suffer for weeks or months. Fibro fog is most commonly characterized by short-term memory loss, struggle in concentrating, trouble in retaining new information, and language difficulties, such as problems in understanding conversations, handling conversations, and expressing thoughts with the ‘right’ words, Exercise pain. Exercise is a pain-reliever for people who do not have fibromyalgia, but it only intensifies the pain for persons with this syndrome. What is difficult here is that a lack of exercise also aggravates the situation, as idleness weakens the muscles and causes more pain. Doctors recommend that fibromyalgia patients engage in light exercise for short intervals everyday, such as walking five minutes per day. This is a good way to keep the muscles working without taxing them out. Headaches. Severe and recurring migraines are also common for persons with fibromyalgia. These are the result of the pain in the neck, jaw, shoulders, and upper back muscles caused by blood vessel constrictions, which are, in turn, caused by extreme fatigue and stress. Up to 70% of people with fibromyalgia experience severe bouts of migraine, making the pain much less easier to tolerate.

With this fibromyalgia symptom checklist, you can actually find out whether or not you have fibromyalgia. Of course, it is never a substitute for a doctor’s diagnosis, but this gives you an idea and helps you prepare your expectations when you receive the final verdict.

Fibromyalgia is a chronic medical disorder that greatly impacts various areas of an individual’s body. These areas include muscles, and soft tissue that is part of the muscles, such as the tendons and ligaments.

Each year, millions of people suffer with fibromyalgia through the Christmas holidays. This can be a very troublesome time for fibromyalgia sufferers everywhere. Here, you will learn how to cope with fibromyalgia at Christmas.

The most common explanation among sufferers with fibromyalgia of how they feel is that they feel as if they have the flu. This is because the most common symptoms include pain throughout the body, complications with sleep, and extreme levels of fatigue.

Fibromyalgia is not a condition that can be cured; however, there are many effective treatments that can help soothe the symptoms of this chronic condition. In order to cope with fibromyalgia at Christmas, it is important that you learn as much as you possibly can regarding the condition.

The ultimate cause of fibromyalgia is not known. However, many medical professionals have established a list of possible triggers for the onset of the condition. These theories include:

1) An individual who does not get the proper amount of sleep may experience the onset of fibromyalgia and the symptoms may become apparent in these situations. This is because sleeping is the body’s time to repair and replenish itself. If it does not get this time to repair and replenish, an individual may experience an attack of fibromyalgia.

2) Many medical professionals account the onset of fibromyalgia to an injury that an individual received at some point in their life. This may be either a physical injury or some type of trauma that affected an individual emotionally. It is believed that these types of traumas have had a direct impact on the brain, nerves, and the spine.

3) Many believe that an abnormality in the chemicals in the nervous system that control the ability to become sensitive to pain may lead to the onset and symptoms of fibromyalgia.

4) Infections that are either bacterial or viral may be culprits to the onset of fibromyalgia. This is especially true if an individual has a genetic predisposition to developing this disease.

While it is common to see fibromyalgia occur in families, there is no conclusive evidence that states that this condition is a result of genetics. There is only evidence that certain families have more than one case of this condition.

Coping with fibromyalgia at Christmas can be extremely difficult for the sufferer and the friends and family members of the sufferer. This is because the individual often suffers from many uncomfortable symptoms that may limit the activities that they commit to.

Individuals who suffer from fibromyalgia at Christmas often find it difficult to commit to family gatherings. The ability to engage in activities like Christmas shopping, preparing Christmas meals, and doing something as small as making Christmas cookies may be too overwhelming for the individual who suffers from the symptoms of this condition.

There is a wide array of symptoms associated with fibromyalgia. Listed below are just a few of the most common symptoms that may affect a person’s ability to enjoy Christmas to its fullest extent:

1) An individual with fibromyalgia often experiences extreme muscle pain. This is quite common during the cold weather that is often experienced during Christmas. Having spasms of the muscles, and even cramps in the legs are common symptoms.

2) Many individuals experience sleep complications. This may include waking up at various intervals throughout the night. This can cause a person to feel completely exhausted and as if they have absolutely no energy to commit to anything during Christmas.

3) Many who suffer from fibromyalgia may find themselves struggling mentally. They may be unable to concentrate on a particular task for very long, have trouble remembering words, or even tasks that they must complete.

4) Sensitivities become very noticeable during the Christmas holidays. Lights, smells, noises, and cold weather can actually result in discomfort. Christmas lights, certain smells such as those associated with pine trees, and cinnamon, noises associated with Christmas carols, and even breezes can cause the fibromyalgia sufferer pain.

5) Many individuals suffer from irritable bowel syndrome, ulcers, and are easily prone to vomiting with fibromyalgia. This is especially true during the Christmas holidays because so many different types of foods and beverages are consumed.

6) Simple things – such as household chores, easy work assignments, and changes in schedules, may cause a person with fibromyalgia to experience high levels of stress and anxiety. This stress and anxiety can lead to a fibromyalgia attach at Christmas.

When dealing with fibromyalgia at Christmas, it is important to ensure that you take a few measures to avoid an attack. These measures include:

1) Explain to friends and family members that it may be difficult to commit to certain Christmas activities and gatherings. Having support from friends and family members is very important when you suffer from fibromyalgia at Christmas.

2) If you must shop for Christmas gifts, or prepare for Christmas activities, you should ensure that you do not push yourself. By doing more than you can handle, at inappropriate times, you may find yourself under an attack with fibromyalgia.

3) Enlist the assistance of others to help you with tasks that are related to Christmas. This may include Christmas shopping, baking for Christmas, and other Christmas preparations.

By using the information in this article, this Christmas can be an enjoyable time for you. Remember, when you suffer from fibromyalgia at Christmas, it does not mean that you have to endure the holidays full of stress and pain!

I know a lot of you may not be interested in this video but it’s really important to me and it would really mean a lot to me if you didn’t ignore it. Fibromyalgia is “characterized by chronic widespread pain, multiple tender points, abnormal pain processing, sleep disturbances, fatigue and often psychological distress.” (National Fibromyalgia Association) the exact symptoms as well as the severity of them vary from patient to patient, but the big three are chronic widespread pain, extreme fatigue, and sleep problems. It is impossible to tell how bad another person’s pain is ever, FM is no different. The best way that has been come up with to describe what it’s like to have FM to someone who doesn’t have it is to imagine the last time you had a very bad flu, you ached all over and you felt so weak and exhausted you wanted to sleep forever. Throw a few more symptoms in there and you have the closest thing to experiencing severe FM. The problem with FM is that it is an invisible disorder, so people don’t look sick a lot of the time and medically things look normal on tests. More intensive studies of people with FM show some brain abnormalities, but nothing that can definitively point to FM. A lot of people don’t believe FM is real. With new drugs being approved and intensive advertising campaigns, the issues have come to the forefront. Respected institutions such as the New York Times all the way to random people on Youtube have expressed their suspicion over whether it’s …

If you are concerned you may have fibromyalgia then you will be keen to find as much information on fibromyalgia as possible. This article aims to cover the theories concerning the possible causes of this debilitating condition.

Although initial studies have found women, between the ages of twenty and fifty-five, are most likely to develop fibromyalgia, there are still so many unknown factors about fibromyalgia that are yet to be understood.

There is a compelling reason why studies on fibromyalgia need to continue and that is the number of people afflicted by fibromyalgia is rapidly rising. In the United States, it is estimated that around 3 – 5% of the population have fibromyalgia.

That would translate to around five to seven million people. And the number is reportedly still rising. On a global scale, the volume of such patients is much greater.

Several more interesting facts about fibromyalgia are to be found in its immediate demographics. Women are far more likely to develop the disease compared to men, on a representative ratio of 20:1. Although the development of fibromyalgia does occur in older people and children it is less common. The average age for developing fibromyalgia is 45.

Symptoms are varied and tend to start slowly and build up over time, with the connection between the symptoms often overlooked. Because of the similarity to other conditions fibromyalgia is commonly misdiagnosed.

The main symptom is pain, and there are 18 common tender points on the body that are very sensitive to pressure or touch. These tender points tend to occur symmetrically on each side of the body.

Aside from pain other symptoms include fatigue, headaches, dizziness, stiff joints on waking, sleep disorder and mental fuzziness, sometimes termed ‘brain fog’.

Though there are many studies that have already been conducted, the cause of fibromyalgia is unclear with a number of competing theories being put forward.

Sleep disorders are common in people with fibromyalgia and recent research may have changed the status from a symptom to a cause. Most fibromyalgia sufferers do not achieve the same levels of deep sleep as normal people do. It is during deep sleep that cells heal and rejuvenate and the brain sorts and stows all the day’s experiences. Without deep sleep the body is unable to function at its normal capacity.

Immune system abnormalities may also be to blame. When the immune system is malfunctioning it can start to attack healthy cells, which causes inflammation and pain.

Genetics haven’t been ruled out as a cause either because women with a close female relative with fibromyalgia have a high risk of developing the condition themselves.

Another theory is fibromyalgia is bought on by an accident or injury. A vast majority of sufferers experienced a physical trauma before the onset of the condition. Damage to the central nervous system can impact on the way the brain functions, lowering pain thresholds, disturbing sleeping patterns and impairing cognitive thought processes.

Keep reading to find out how to sign up for the Fibromyalgia newsletter and discover natural ways to overcome fibromyalgia.

If you are concerned that you have fibromyalgia then make an appointment with your doctor and discuss with them information on fibromyalgia and whether further testing is required.
