I have read the first book by this author, and while I found his treatment protocol interesting, I did not find it very practical to implement. It is very difficult, if not impossible, to delete every source of salicylate from every product that you use. Every makeup item, every skin care product, every shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant, dish soap, detergent, cleaning product…the list goes on and on. There are plant extracts in nearly everything that we use on a daily basis.
If you do not work, perhaps you have the time to begin this intensive program. If you work full time, however, you are already exhausted from the fibro and simply do not have enough time left in your day to research every personal item that you use to see whether it contains salicylates. Even if you do, there is no proof that it works. Furthermore, I have yet to find a doctor that I could “introduce” this protocol to who would take the time to research it and learn more about it. Sure, I have been to many different doctors and tried many things to help rid me of fibromyalgia. The fact of the matter is, if this was a proven cure, it would be everywhere by now, in the media, online, and more doctors would be embracing this protocol.
The bottom line is that proper nutrition and exercise are the best weapons that you have. If you feed your body only nutritious foods, it will slowly begin to respond to getting the nutritious “fuel” that it needs. As it responds, you will have a little more energy and be able to slowly begin an exercise program. As you increase your exercise, you will have more energy. As your body gets physically healthier, you will feel better. This will happen without guaifenesin and without deleting salicylates from your life.

I have read several books about fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue. They were, in general, clearly written and their theories were clearly espoused. This book has almost no theory, (you must buy the previous book, only available used) and the content was repetitive and poorly organized. A perusal of the author’s website will give you all the information you need to use this protocol.
The theory of this book, using guaifenisin for fibromyalgia, has been much discussed on the internet; and the upshot seems to be that the placebo effect is a powerful force in medicine. I am sure Dr St. Armand fully believes in his treatment, but the science does not bear out his theory.
I too, am looking for relief from pain, but I would save my money on this book.
