They have to rule out things like Lupus. And there is a specific test that they have 18 points that are called trigger points that tell them if you have it or not. (i had all 18, but you don’t have to have them all). I went to a rheumatoid arthritis doctor for diagnosis.

Ive just been recently diagnosed after 10 years!! Ive had extensive blood tests to rule out all other possibilities first. I was diagnosed by the tender point tests, and by the other symptoms that relate to fibromyalgia. Chest pains ( non cardiac been checked) Irritable bowel syndrome and sensitivity to smells tastes sights the list goes on , sore tired muscles and fatigue. To be honest its not a nice thing to have so hopefully its not happening to you..or anyone close to you.

    Dear Justin,

Because no simple lab test is currently available, Fibromyalgia (FM) diagnosis requires a hands-on evaluation by a skilled medical professional. This evaluation usually consists of:

    1. Ruling out medical conditions whose symptoms mimic FM (i.e., Thyroid Disease, MS, Lupus, etc.)

    2. An extensive medical history which includes a discussion of the nature and duration of specific symptoms.

    3. A physical examination which includes a tender point exam. The criteria used for diagnosis is widespread pain for a duration of more than 3 months. Also, pain in 11 of the 18 tender point locations when a pressure of 4 kgs is used at the tender point location.

For more information about FM , including Myths, Symptoms, Possible Causes, Severity, Duration, Treatments, and Tender Points visit FM/CFS/ME RESOURCES. You can also find information about Disability, Finding a Doctor and much more.

    I hope this helps!

You can go through a lot of expensive tests that won’t really help you feel better.

Or you can check Saliva pH first. Cheap, quick and easy. You do it yourself. You can get the little dispenser of test paper at a local health food store.

From that, you will know if you are like the approximately 90% of Fibros who are the Overly Acidic Version.
