Fibromyalgia is a common condition that affects hundreds of people worldwide. Unfortunately, causes of fibromyalgia are still unknown, making it difficult to spot the condition with physical and obvious signs.

If a rheumatologist feels that all your symptoms are associated with fibromyalgia, he or she may recommend a few lifestyle changes, medication and dietary restrictions. Since there are no known cures for this condition, doctors will only recommend treatments to lessen the symptoms of fibromyalgia.

One change patients may require is his or her daily diet. Although most fibromyalgia patients report that their pains are alleviated by dietary measures, there is no specific and proven fibromyalgia diet program to treat this condition.

Several studies have been made to determine the effect of certain foods on fibromyalgia in order to formulate an effective fibromyalgia diet for patients. Unfortunately, there are no clear medical evidences that indicate certain foods and dietary supplements could improve this syndrome.

Therefore, if you are looking for the perfect fibromyalgia diet to reduce your symptoms, be aware that it can be misleading to say that there is one single diet, which could effectively reduce your symptoms. Doctors recommend dietary changes for this condition that are based on general principles of a healthy eating program that avoids certain foods known to cause headaches, allergies, hyperglycemia, fatigue and digestive disorders.

Fibromyalgia Diet: Foods To Avoid

Although there are no accepted fibromyalgia diets, many patients continue to report that specific foods effectively alleviate symptoms better than others do. Doctors explain this occurrence based on the important of proper nutrition in keeping the body free from biochemical problems. Since fatigue and inflammation are symptoms that are affected by food, there is no harm in following a fibromyalgia diet that you or your doctor believes can reduce symptoms.

Some patients experience food allergies or cravings. For this reasons, doctors try to alleviate the pain by changing the patient’s diet. While many patients report common foods to avoid, be aware that not everyone can benefit from fibromyalgia diet they recommend because symptoms of fibromyalgia vary from one patient to another.

Generally, patients follow a fibromyalgia diet program that contains food that are not linked to headaches, fatigue, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammation and other symptoms associated with this complex syndrome. Patients are advised to identify and avoid foods that aggravate their individual condition. However, most doctors advise on avoiding foods with aspartame and monosodium glutamate.

If you feel that a fibromyalgia diet can benefit your condition, you can follow a low refined-carb diet, vegetarian diet and any kind of diets that reduce headaches. It is important to note that the diet you choose should specifically treat your individual symptoms and it is not practical to follow other patient’s diet because their “formulated fibromyalgia diet: may not work wonders for you.

Chronic pain sufferers often seek medical attention; this is a condition which most medical experts would conclude to be that of Fibromyalgia. There are no known cures and official treatments for this chronic medical condition and the reason for this is rather simple; there are also no official causes of which has been recognized despite years of research and studying this condition. There are some treatments and medications available though is not necessarily meant for the eradication of the pain yet may aide in alleviating the symptoms. There are also some alternative treatments available as well as that of simple things one can do to help them in their daily battles with this kind of condition. Among which is the Fibromyalgia diet; this is one step – perhaps the most vital element apart from exercise one can do when patients decide to alter their lifestyle to further improve their way of living. There are no actual strict diets when it comes to this kind of condition; this is nothing similar to that of diabetes or heart disease.

It may be a cliché that we often hear the two dreaded words in a regular person’s ears – “balanced diet”. However, one must then think among themselves that this actually makes sense. There are some food items and nutritional components of which trigger the onset and further development of Fibromyalgia when taken in excessive amounts; there are even some patients who are actually quite sensitive even with the mere exposure to these elements. Among the food items of which will trigger or even perhaps heighten the pain are: refined sugar, artificial sugar such as that of aspartame, monosodium glutamate or MSG, high calorie food, high saturated fat prepared meals or better known as fried food items, caffeinated drinks such as that of coffee, high sugar food items or candies, and even those of alcoholic beverages, and tobacco products such as that of cigarettes. MSG and artificial sugars are known to actually be able to stimulate pain receptors found in the spinal cord. Alcoholic drinks, candies and caffeine are known to make one of the most common symptoms, sleep disturbance worse.

The best food items one can find in a helpful Fibromyalgia diet are fruits, vegetables, protein rich foods such as lean meat, poultry, fish and dried beans, grains, low fat dairy products, yogurt and cheese, carbohydrate rich foods and dark chocolates. These should be taken in healthy proportions thus the idea of balance proves essential. The key here is the development of amino acids which will aide in the protein build up in the body thus making one’s constitution less likely to become susceptible to pain. As Fibromyalgia is known to be a condition where tissue abnormalities are most likely to occur, when one begins to eat healthy food items in proper proportions, one would be able to not only boost their immune system but also to be able to regenerate and help their muscles repair itself to help alleviate stiffness and the chronic heightening pain this condition is best known for.

If you have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, then you might be wondering if a fibromyalgia diet could help ease your symptoms.

The idea behind a fibro diet is to help you regain your strength and ease the pains that come with your condition. So, what are the components of this type of diet, and how can they help you?

To understand how adjusting your diet can provide relief, it’s important to understand the symptoms that are associated with fibromyalgia.

Although the cause of fibromyalgia is a heavily debated topic, what is certain are the symptoms. The most dominant symptom is musculoskeletal pain, followed by fatigue and characterized by multiple tenderpoints found in particular areas of the body. Sleep disorders are also common, as are irritable bowel symptoms and headaches, as well as a lack of mental clarity, sometimes called ‘brain fog’.

There are a number of treatment options for fibromyalgia sufferers including mild to moderate exercise, which reduces muscle pain. Good exercises are non-impact ones like swimming or walking. Relaxation is key, so it pays to listen to your body and rest when it tells you to. Medication is also available for sleep disorders and reducing muscle pain. Underpinning all these treatment options is diet.

We’ve all heard the adage ‘we are what we eat’ and that is particularly true for fibromyalgia sufferers. Today it is all too easy to buy pre-packaged convenience meals that all we have to do to ‘prepare’ a meal is place it in the microwave. However, what is this food giving you other than convenience? Lots of preservatives, additives, colorings, flavorings, salt and sugar. Doesn’t sound very nutritious does it?

When suffering from a debilitating condition like fibromyalgia time saving activities can be a great relief, however when it comes to food it pays to spend the time preparing fresh produce. Enlist the help of family and friends if you need to.

There are a number of common trigger foods that seem to effect a lot of fibromyalgia sufferers and they are all found in our day to day diets. These trigger foods include:
Caffeine
Sugar, including artificial sweeteners
Chocolate
Alcohol
High fat milk, cheeses and ice cream
Soda
Cured meats
Processed foods containing preservatives and additives
Salt

When choosing foods to help ease your symptoms you should select low fat meats, choosing poultry and fish over red meat, include plenty of fruits and vegetables, as well as whole grains, beans and nuts.

Some fibromyalgia sufferers also have food allergies, commonly wheat, dairy or nightshade plants or an intolerance to carbohydrates, so it may take a little time to find the right diet for you.

For more information about natural Fibromylgia treatments sign up for the free newsletter below.

The above list is not exhaustive and oneway of figuring out a diet that will help your symptoms is to try eliminating foods that you think make your symptoms worse and track the outcome in a food diary.

It may take a bit of trial and error to find the right fibromyalgia diet for you but its worth the time as the results can be significant.

All people who suffer from fibromyalgia are overwhelmed by its variety of symptoms. Fibromyalgia is considered to be a serious neurological condition that in time can lead to many complications. Although millions of people worldwide are confronted with fibromyalgia, the exact causes of the disorder haven’t yet been clarified. Despite the fact that scientists have been able to establish a connection between abnormal brain activity and the symptoms of fibromyalgia, the factors responsible for causing the disorder are still unknown.

The factors of risk that are considered to facilitate the occurrence and the development of fibromyalgia are stress, depression, inadequate sleeping patterns, inappropriate diet and unhealthy lifestyle. Although many people who are exposed to all of these factors of risk don’t develop neurological conditions, statistics indicate that all patients diagnosed with fibromyalgia have suffered from depression at certain stages of their lives and many of them have developed the disorder on the premises of insomnia, unhealthy lifestyle and inappropriate diet.

An appropriate diet is vital for maintaining both physical and mental balance and it can strengthen the immune system of the organism. A good fibromyalgia diet can be a very effective way of overcoming the symptoms of the disorder, normalizing and stimulating the activity of the body. Unhealthy lifestyle, stress, lack of sleep, smoking, the abuse of alcoholic beverages are all considered to be factors of risk in the development of fibromyalgia. By improving your lifestyle and by respecting an appropriate fibromyalgia diet, you will quickly feel improvements in your health. Also, an effective fibromyalgia diet can considerably ameliorate the symptoms of the disorder. Here are some tips in establishing an effective fibromyalgia diet:

A good fibromyalgia diet should exclude alcoholic beverages and smoking; also, caffeine is known to have undesirable effects on the fragile nervous system of people with fibromyalgia and therefore, all products containing caffeine (coffee, tea, carbonated soda, cocoa and chocolate) should be excluded from the fibromyalgia diet.

An appropriate fibromyalgia diet should contain less dairy products, especially those that contain high levels of fat; consider using soy replacements instead (soy milk, tofu).

Consume less wheat products, as they are not well tolerated by people with fibromyalgia.

Reduce the amount of sugar in your fibromyalgia diet.

Stay away from food products that contain additives, colorants and preservatives.

Avoid any kind of fried foods; consider eating more boiled and baked foods instead.

Add more home-made meals in your fibromyalgia diet; consume more soups, as they are better tolerated by the stomach.

Consume more liquids.

Reduce the amount of salt and spices in your meals.

Reduce the amount of meat in your fibromyalgia diet.

Consume plenty of vegetables and fruits, as they are a vital source of vitamins and minerals.

Consider taking mineral and vitamin supplements.

These are some basic tips in establishing a good, effective fibromyalgia diet. By respecting these suggestions in planning your fibromyalgia diet, you will soon begin to feel an amelioration of your symptoms. A good fibromyalgia diet can correct the sleeping problems that occur to most people with the disorder, also diminishing fatigue and the lack of energy characteristic to fibromyalgia.
